You know, Raleigh is the kind of guy that's fairly forgiving. He can admit when he's wrong, when he's fucked up, and when he needs to forgive and just forget.
This? Not gonna forgive, not gonna forget.
He'd looked the other way when they stole kisses and held hands. He'd lied for them, blocked them from view, helped cover for them when they went on their little trips to Hong Kong and Australia and wherever the fuck else they went.
Now, he feels betrayed. It's irrational and ridiculous, but when Raleigh finds out that Herc knocked Mako up and then asked her to marry him?
He's pissed.
And honestly, he only knows because Mako told him -- mercifully, it's not a rumor that's circulating but it's still something that makes his blood boil. It seems some kind of disservice to her, like Herc didn't fucking respect her enough to ask her to marry him months ago, and now this happened.
Fucking dick.
So when Raleigh sees him in the hallway, he marches straight towards him, murder in his eyes.

"I wasn't alone," he protests, contemplating the effort it would take to shift so his head lands in her lap. "I had my misery and crushing guilt to keep me company."
no subject
"That isn't company." She keeps up the gentle massage; she knows what a hangover is like, the hammer inside of your head.
"That is self-pity."
no subject
He manages to twist himself around so that he can rest his head on her thigh, pushing himself closer so that he can hide his face against her belly. Hello, baby.
"It was a low moment for me."
no subject
"I know." She's quiet for a few beats, just listening to him breath against her stomach.
"And that's okay." Everyone has low moments. Mako has low moments, too. They're just generally well hidden.
no subject
"'M sorry I made you babysit me," he mumbles, nuzzling her a little.
no subject
"I don't mind. Just don't make it a regular occurrence. Deal?"
no subject
He almost croons when she drags her nails over his scalp, sighing happily.
"'S nice."
no subject
She does not want to deal with an alcoholic -- there are lines you just don't cross, and she would really hate to have to drag his ass to AA meetings. It'd just be awkward.
"I checked your schedule, while you were sleeping. In an hour and a half, you have a meeting. I waited as long as I could to wake you."
no subject
He groans pitifully, hiding his face in her stomach again.
"Tell them I've died."
no subject
"No can do, Sir." She shakes his shoulder gently. "You have a teleconference with the President."
no subject
That finally makes him sit up, groaning and squinting and moving his jaw gingerly. Sure enough, his bruise has become a beautiful bright purple overnight.
"And my face..." He turns distraught eyes on his fiancee. "Please tell me you know a ginger who'd let me borrow her foundation."
no subject
"I am teasing you," she says, swallowing her laughter back down. "But you do have a meeting with several members of the tech crew from Striker. I think maybe they are worried about their jobs."
Since Striker is gone.
no subject
"Oh, you little shit."
He collapses back down into her lap, groaning as he jostles his head. He can't believe her. She is so cruel.
"Their jobs are fine. I'm dead, I can't fire them."
no subject
She leans over him and cups his face, dropping little kisses to his lips and face.
"They need to hear it from you."
no subject
"Can you get me some more water, love? And maybe a paracetamol?"
He needs to deal with this hangover if he's going to talk to his old crew.
no subject
"Of course."
A final little kiss and she's getting up to get him what he needs before settling back down next to him.
"Sit."
no subject
By the time she comes back with his pills and a glass of water, he's hauled himself up to a sitting position, though he's still squinting balefully at the rest of the room.
"Thank you."
no subject
"Do you remember talking to me last night?"
no subject
"Bits and pieces."
He remembers crying into her shoulder, which was embarrassing.
no subject
Well -- that's alright. If he needs her too, she'll tell him again, when he needs it.
no subject
"I'm sorry for fighting Raleigh in the hallway," he says finally, even though he wasn't the one who threw any punches at all.
no subject
"The things he said were not right." Not in any way. Not at all. "It was not his place. I do not blame you."
no subject
It's hard, though, because there's a part of him that agrees with Raleigh.
"I want him to be okay with this," he says quietly. "He's your copilot. He's important to you."
no subject
"Do you remember when he first found out? He was angry, but it got better. This will get better too."
She's just going to have to knock some sense into him.
no subject
He sighs quietly.
"Is he going to be angry about everything that we do?" Because that's going to be exhausting and just generally too much to handle. Plus, explaining to the kids why Uncle Raleigh keeps punching their dad whenever something new happens in their life is going to get old, fast.
