Hercules has become very good at locking his emotions and his problems away and putting on a brave face. He's got his military training to fall back on, plus years spent in front of cameras lending him the capacity to shove all his doubts and his pain deep down so he can roll his eyes and joke when people poke fun at him for his surprise engagement and the even bigger surprise fight he had with Raleigh in the hallway.

He knocks his fist into one of Striker Eureka's mechanic's shoulders, sending the man rocking as he casually insults his paternity in the way that you do with good friends. Everyone seems to have accepted his story of Raleigh wanting to haze him, to threaten him into treating his copilot properly.

It probably helps that everyone loves the blond pilot, loves Mako, and are even somewhat fond of the Marshal himself. They seem to have a hard time imagining that their superior officers might not get along.

It's Herc that has to live with the knowledge that his fiancee's copilot can't even look at him without sneering.

He hasn't seen Mako all day, which means by the time lunch comes around, Herc ends up sitting with Striker's old crew, their morning meeting having bled into a kind of all-day reunion, with jokes and stories being tossed around like they haven't seen each other in years, not hours. It's nice, to sit with people he knows as well as his old crew, with people who sound like him, care about the things he cares about, who genuinely like him, no matter what. They've even slipped out of calling him 'sir' or 'Marshal,' just referring to him by name now.

Yeah. It's nice.
